5 TV shows that I am sad are cancelled

May 26th, 2009 · 2 Comments · What's on the screen

The beginning of summer is such a sad time. All year long, TV shows have jostled and begged for your attention and now, their reckoning day is due.  Did you love them enough to bring them back in the fall?  Did they have your votes, America?

Apparently these did not.

  • Without A Trace (CBS): There is room for 3 hours of CSI plus Ghost Whisperer and Cold Case on the network and no space for this show?  Really?  How is this possible?   Apparently, in the death match between this and Numb3rs, Without a Trace is more expensive. But I watched this show religiously.  It was my Law and Order; dependable scripts, well-acted and didn’t require a lot of mental energy to watch.
  • Life on Mars (ABC): I loved, loved, loved this show.  I thought it was one of the best new shows of the season.  Interesting and full of great acting and great actors (Harvey Keitel!  Gretchen Moll! Michael Imperioli!) and a love song to a New York that will only ever exist again in HD memory.  The fact that they took what was originally a British hit and transferred it so successfully to America made it even better.
  • Kings (NBC): The midseason replacement had a big marketing push and then disappeared.  And by disappeared I mean banished to Sundays at 8pm in August.  Which is a shame because I thought it had potential.  And Ian McShane.  But I wonder if it would have been better suited to cable.
  • Dirty Sexy Money (ABC): So I didn’t actually watch this show when it was on.  But I kept meaning to. Honest.   I really like the handful of episodes I did see. Plus, I was totally going to use Netflix to catch up this summer.
  • King of the Hill (FOX): Apparently, they cancelled it back in October and have just been burning off episodes.  Guess I haven’t been watching it that much after all.

Can’t believe ABC has killed “The Unusuals” (great cast) and may kill off “Better off Ted” (wonderful subversive humor), and are keeping “Scrubs”. How many “series finale” episodes is that series going to get, anyway? Also, I just realized I don’t watch a single thing on CBS except for “the Amazing Race” and now “Medium”.

The Scrubs thing I don’t get either… I like the show but come on, let it die a nice, natural death. Let Better of Ted take it’s place. I like that show too … I think I harbor a not-so-secret crush on Portia de Rossi.
