On the subject of Mennonite nursing schools, I think that back in the era of 3-year diploma schools of nursing, there was a Mennonite School of Nursing program at Normal (or maybe it was Bloomington) Illinois Mennonite Hospital. With the end of the 3-year programs, they probably merged with the local university. Maybe someone else who knows more about it could clarify that. Speaking of nursing schools, I’m a graduate of one of those 3 year diploma programs in a Catholic hospital. When one of my aunts found out I would be training in a Catholic hospital, she was quite horrified. That was back in the days before Vatican II when most Mennos /evangelicals, and RC’s were mutually suspicious of one another. Anyway, the talk going around was that St. Paul’s actually welcomed Mennonite students, referred to as “girls” at the time, because “they knew how to WORK”, and work we did, I might add. Those were interesting times (mid 60’s) in both Menno and RC worlds. I attended my first movie in a movie theatre and did not feel guilty. And by the time I graduated in ‘67, the nuns had forsaken their long black habits and blinder head gear and taken back their birth names. And thankfully, the cloud of mutual suspicion had begun to lift!
